Challenger Baseball is a program designed for the needs of children
that live with physical or mental disabilities. The kids participate in a sports environment structured to emphasize their personal success.
Players learn and grow while having fun. Challenger Baseball provides an essential opportunity for kids to develop stronger emotional & social skills.
The kids are encouraged to “Get off the bench and play!”
Challenger Baseball works to install a “can do” attitude in our players.
The positive experience helps the players gain confidence. In turn, their
self-esteem grows stronger.
Challenger Baseball stresses the idea of participation over competition.
Each player gets to bat, field and “run” the bases. We do not count balls, strikes or outs. Victories come in the form of achievement and participation in the game.
There are three absolute rules…. Be safe, have fun and play ball!
Children that have any physical or mental disability are welcome to join. Players that have reached the age of 5 prior to June 1, 2010 are eligible to play in 2010. Players may continue to participate in the program until they finish high school.
The spring season finishes at the end of April. The fun continues as we host on and off field events all year long. From the "Florida Challenger Jamboree", to our family picnic. Plus opportunities to watch the Clearwater Threshers and the Tampa Bay Rays. Then there's "Fall Ball", the "Elks Camp Retreat Weekend" and our year end holiday party.
Some of our players require a little extra help. Kids from our other Clearwater Little League divisions volunteer to be a “buddy’ at our games. Our kids interact with and learn baseball, from their peers. Our “buddies” learn while have fun, too! They receive lessons about understanding and tolerance from their new friends.
